I used to think single solid objects were the easy win no hassle and ready to go right away, but then I kept running into the same problem: flat details and visible layer lines on curves that ruined the paint job. After messing up a few expensive prints I realized multi part kits actually give you cleaner surfaces and sharper overhangs because each piece prints in its optimal orientation. That shift in thinking led me to explore Premium 3d models on places like Gambody where the files are already split logically with alignment pins and clear assembly guides. Now I only buy kits even if it means more gluing because the final result looks injection molded instead of like a chunky toy. Just check the model preview for how parts connect some designers nail it others leave gaps you have to fill yourself.
